Tolson, who, while at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, formed a debate team that would ultimately travel to Harvard during the 1935 National Championships ... Coincidentally A. Roy Rushing, former Principle of Vernon Training School, graduated from Wiley College in 1939 or 1940 and was a student of Melvin Tolson and probably attended classes with members of the history making debate team.
