    Adria Fichter, an environmental engineering major at the University of New Hampshire and intern with the Environmental Protection Agency, presented her progress on developing a program to cut the district s utility bills, as well as reduce its environmental impact. Fichter s work is part of the EPA s Community Energy Challenge, a program aimed at helping municipalities identify simple and cost-effective ways to increase energy efficiency and renewable energy use while reducing pollution.     AMBER Alerts continue decline  Jul 24, 2008
    David Finkelhor, director of the Crimes Against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire, says the declining number of alerts reflects a decline in crimes against children. Finkelhor's research, based on figures from the Department of Health and Human Services, shows that between 1992 and 2006, the number of substantiated cases of sexual abuse fell 53% and those of physical abuse fell 48.     SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The mother of a professional surfer who was fatally beaten outside her home in an upscale San Diego neighborhood is suing the five young men - including a former University of New Hampshire football player - accused of committ 00002F6B ing the crime. The suit, filed Tuesday by Cynthia Kauanui (KOW'-ah-noo-ee), also seeks damages from several parents, whom she accuses of "parental malpractice" for allegedly failing to control their sons' violent behavior.
