I read Oglethorpe University President Larry Schall's essay about the plight of Ed S. Cook Elementary School and its abundance of inner-city children living in poverty and how they are being cheated of an education. Schall notes that Cook Elementary lost many of its students a few years ago when public housing projects were razed to make room for a 900-unit mixed-income private residential development, and he laments that it's doubtful that the children living in these new homes would attend...
