The Northland College Athletic Program has announced that Sam Stanfield, Deerwood, will be attending Northland College in the fall of 2009. Stanfield, who attends Crosby-Ironton High School, will continue her athletic career as she plans to compete in both volleyball and basketball at the collegiate level. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch)

Since the launch of the Wisconsin program last month, about 190 residential and 10 business customers, such as Northland College in Ashland, have signed up to receive some or all of their energy through Windsource, Xcel officials said. According to Xcel Energy management, Xcel is the top renewable energy provider in Wisconsin and in 2008 about 18 percent of the company s electric generation in the upper Midwest was produced from renewable resources and 43 percent from carbon-free resources. Northland College pitcher Kristin Zimmer, a freshman from Laona and former hurler for the Laona/Wabeno Rebels, notched her first college victory with a shutout performance on April 6 over Crown College. In the second game of an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader, Zimmer gave up three hits, had no walks and struck out six Storm batters. (Forest Republican, WI)
