He was recently given a Doctor of Humanities degree by the Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis and a Doctor of Music degree by Assumption College in Worcester, and in late May he was inducted into the National Institute of Arts and Letters a first, as far as I know, for anyone connected with jazz. A friend of mine who was at the Institute ceremonies told me that Ellington was given a standing ovation. (New Yorker)
