    Yellow Jackets set to continue success  Aug 27, 2008
    SPEARFISH When Scott Walkinshaw stepped onto the Black Hills State University campus for the first time in 1998 he got the cross country program running and it hasn t slowed down since. In his 10 years guiding both the men s and women s teams they have combined to win 15 Dakota Athletic Conference titles and claimed runner-up finishes at the national meet on four occasions. According to university folklore, BHSU first adopted the Yellow Jacket mascot in the late 1920s, after a fan yelled go you yellow jackets at the football team, which was wearing yellow jackets to stay warm during an exceptionally cold game.
